Re: “ Did he plea bargain or go to trial?”

How do you plea bargain when guilt is so apparent?

No, he pled guilty. If he agreed to do so in exchange for a light sentence then I wouldn't know . . . but I'd be disgusted since it was an easy case and he doesn't deserve leniency.

As for the fine, It's an insult. A joke. He wasted a lot of peoples time when he was caught. He took up the police's time too. My wife and the pastor had to go to the courthouse TWICE. Add it all up and I'm sure he did more than 800 dollars in harm. Probably 8 THOUSAND dollars in harm. Police and court time ain't cheap.

But he was black and had no priors. The courts go easy on you if you're black and didn't kill anyone. In their eyes, that makes you a model for black people everywhere.

"The case was open and shut."

I agree ... that's why the $800 fine seems pretty shocking to me. Did he plea bargain or go to trial? If a trial, was it a jury trial or did he simply allow a judge to decide?
