I responded to you on this question over at the BAF Board, but ... yes ... I wholeheartedly recommend the AR-10. I was thinking about buying an AR in either 6.5mm Grendel or 6.8mm SPC and my gun shop owner asked me why. I responded that I wanted something that had the range and hitting power of a 7.62x51mm and would give me a standard clip of 25, instead of 20. He said, "Do you really plan on slogging through the boonies so much that you need to cut down on your ammo weight but still maintain that level of firepower?" I said, "Probably not." So, he says, "If you want something that hits like a .308 with the range of a .308 ... just buy the #%$&!@* .308. Besides, the ammo is much easier to find and a whole helluva lot cheaper."

First time I took it to the range, there was a guy shooting an AR-15 to my left - pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. I set up and fired off a couple of rounds. Dead silence. And then, "SON OF A BITCH! Is that an AR-10? DAMN - I gotta get me one of them!"
