Federal Judge Blocks Mississippi's 15-Week Abortion Ban
A federal judge granted a temporary restraining order against a Mississippi law that bans abortions after 15 weeks, the AP reported.
House Bill 1510, signed by Governor Phil Bryant on Monday, made no exceptions for rape or incest.
Rob McDuff, a lawyer for the Jackson Women’s Health Organization—the state’s only abortion clinic—requested the restraining order, citing a woman’s scheduled abortion on Tuesday afternoon and questioning the law's constitutionality.
A physician at the clinic said HB 1510 would force her to give up her medical license in the state, which has the nation's highest infant mortality rate.
