Yes and no. You have to leave the house and walk to the street. From there, you've got a 50/50 chance of making a call.
I do remember once sitting on the deck and reading Atomic Bob's with my Blackberry. The conditions were flukish, though. It was probably raining. Normally when I'm up there, there's no television reception or cell phone reception, and only poor reception of the Rush Limbaugh show. When I'm working outside, I've got a boom box I can set up near the street. AM reception is fine from there.
