You can buy some excellent weapons for $1100.
For home use, and not carry, I agree with Ribit concerning barrel length. 4 inches or longer. My Ruger full size is about 5 inches. Solid.
Lots of police had Beretta pistols and the spooks used Glocks.
For all around great VALUE and excellent service and reputation in a handgun, S&W is hard to beat and American.
KAHR Is a GREAT weapon to have as well. Also made in America. Springfield Armory is made here and of course, in our rifle categories and some handguns you have Remington and Winchester.
BUT, you are spot on with your budget amount you posted.
Have some fun and go to the store and handle several and see how they feel. Looking is FREE. And the feel is a good indicator. If it feels right for you weight wise and grip wise that is a good essential beginning.
The time is coming quickly that we do not know when our neighbors are going to turn into some rabid dog with the deadly politics of the lefties. When that time comes, those who are prepared will have the best chance to survive it.
