Office That Vets Trump Appointees Is Understaffed: Report
The Presidential Personnel Office—which is in charge of recruiting and vetting thousands of political appointees for the Trump administration—is woefully understaffed and filled with inexperienced employees, many of whom are still in their twenties, according to an investigation by The Washington Post.
The newspaper found that only about 30 staffers work in the office—despite vacancies in key posts—and some are friends or family members of officials.
Two senior staffers have been arrested in the past—including a college dropout who was busted on charges of drunken driving and bad checks. A Marine Corps reservist who works in the office has also been arrested for assault, disorderly conduct, and fleeing an officer, according to the newspaper.
“No administration has done it as poorly as the current one,” Max Stier,
president and chief executive of the Partnership for Public Service, said of the Trump administration's appointment process.
