Well, the dividend checks are what make me smile.

Try thinking about it this way. Much of Dominions
service areas are regulated - as in various state
regulatory commissions are controlling the prices.
'They' need to factor in the power companies need
to turn a profit and pay the stockholders as well as
keeping the lights on.

So regulated power companies (like Big D) share prices
are more dependent on investor sentiment and what the
overall markets are looking like. If the stock market
looks really great then investors will abandon power
companies and buy the 'hot stock of the day'. But when
the markets look sick investors will dive into the
relative safety of the power companies.

AS I think I said before, in late 1999 ALL my power
company share prices were slipping downwards as 'everybody'
was buying into the dot.com bubble.

In 2000, shortly after the dot com collapse started
Dominion Resources started climbing upwards. I figure
that if I had managed to buy a boat load of it just
before the dot.com bubble burst I could have (including
the dividend) just about doubled my money - in one year.

Unfortunately I didn't see it and so didn't buy it. In
fact, D's share price had slid down to the point where
I wanted to buy some . . and just as I pulled out the
checkbook to buy some more the bottom dropped out of
the dot.coms and Dominion started streaking for the moon.

Zim.
