California Rejects National Guard Border Plan
Two officials told the Associated Press that California has “rejected” President Donald Trump’s initial plans to send National Guard troops to the southern border because “the work is considered too closely tied to immigration enforcement.”
In the ongoing negotiations between the federal government and the state, California has asserted that it will not permit federal troops to “fix and repair vehicles, operate remotely-controlled surveillance cameras to report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol, operate radios and provide ‘mission support.’” Negotiations soured over the weekend between the two parties, as federal officials saw the state's restrictions as “onerous,” sources told the AP.
