Speaker Ryan backs down, House chaplain gets job back
Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., backed down Thursday and gave the Rev. Patrick Conroy his job back as House chaplain.
Ryan, who touched off a controversy among lawmakers in both parties when he forced Conroy from the post last month, reversed himself just hours after Conroy wrote to the speaker, saying he was withdrawing his letter of resignation. Ryan said he was acting because "I know that this body is not well served by a protracted fight over such an important post."
