Four women are said to have accused New York’s attorney general, Eric Schneiderman, of assault. He had long cast himself as a champion of women.

Two of the women, Michelle Manning Barish and Tanya Selvaratnam, told The New Yorker that they had been choked and hit repeatedly by Mr. Schneiderman.
“I have not assaulted anyone. I have never engaged in nonconsensual sex, which is I line I would not cross,” Mr. Schneiderman said.
