De,

You said

I can insert it into the conduit as far as it will go and and suck a lot of the water out.

THAT will work. I did that when I moved into my last facilityI had built. The conduit lines were filled with water and I used a wet/dry shop vac with long flex hose to suck out the vast majority of water...

You are on the right track.....

Re: “remember that water runs downhill so it might be easier to PUSH it downward. That really sucks..”

Thank you.

The street is considerably higher than the base of the house, and this conduit goes from the street to the base, up to six feet underground in places. It is vertical at both the house and the street, so think of it as a 75-foot long "U" with one end being higher than the other. The end at the house is filled to the brim with water.

I'll definitely try blowing it out from the street with a compressor. I also bought a siphon hose and squeeze valve today. Maybe I can get water out that way. Finally, I borrowed a wet/dry shop-vac (I can't find my own - which tells you something about the state of the garage. It's in there SOMEWHERE, probably in the mass of boxes that I refer to only as "the pile." If I attach a few feet of ordinary PVC to the end of the shop-vac, I can insert it into the conduit as far as it will go and and suck a lot of the water out.

I didn't work on the problem today. My wife and I spent most of the day traveling to and returning with the Airstream trailer. By the time we returned after 3 p.m., it was threatening rain. We went out for an early dinner.

Tomorrow, the drive will be shorter but we're doing many of the same things. The day may be a clone of today, but I hope to find time to work on the conduit problem. Maybe it will turn out to be easy. Fingers crossed.
