Thanks Ribs.

He is 89 with about 5 or 6 years of dementia. Once was pretty smart man. Older he got though the more crotchety and cantankerous he got.

Funny thing is that I am the one person of the siblings that he really disliked.

Now this is some real irony...

I think he may not be in his apartment, which is in a facility, much longer. He cannot remember simple or basic things anymore. Has less and less control and eats less and less when he does eat.

I cannot continue going there daily every morning and making his coffee because he cannot put a scoop of coffee in basket and pour water and turn on coffee maker.

I hand wash his few pieces of dinnerware daily and do his laundry. I cleaned his bathroom yesterday.

I am concerned now though that because he will not drink enough fluid that he really needs to be in assisted living where someone checks on him routinely.

Now I have to leave and take him to a doctor appointment to have a pacemaker checked out...

I didn't want to work anyway..... not...

...showers are a pain in that ass. First ya gotta adjust the water and it won't stay adjusted. It's either too hot or too cold all the time. Then ya gotta soap up and generally by that time we have discovered that there is no soap in the ahower. Then there is always some place or another ya can't reach to soap up and if ya do, ya can't get in there with water to wash the soap off. It's always something with that shower thingy.

...tell ya another thing we will do is not change clothes. Other than when mz ribit makes me go work in the yard I do very little other than watch tv and share my brilliance with the world via the internet. I change my T-shirt and underwear and socks daily, but I can make a pair of jeans last a week. Truth is Jeans don't relly get comfortable til about day three.

I have already told my family that I want to go to one of them personal care homes when I get to the pooping, peeing and drooling part of my life.

...getting old folks to do anything good for them isn't gonna work, because we don't care anymore. Our bodies and minds have betrayed us. We used to RULE THE WORLD but now we can't rule our own bladder. It is a sad state of affairs and the only thing that will get ya thru it is a strong faith and a good sense of humor.
