But the Trump people have indicated that they think that ALL immigrants, legal as well as illegal, should be excluded from the census. They know that doing that outright would be declared unconstitutional, so the next best thing is to demand that people indicate their immigration status on the census with the idea that this will discourage many immigrants, irrespective of their status, from cooperating with the census process, thus accomplishing what they want anyway, an under-count in those states with large immigrant populations.

I agree, but we have a conundrum.

On the slaves, they were counted because they “belonged”. Illegal aliens do not. But, again, I see all that, and it needs to be solved.
