He's having an economic war with the whole world, except Russia.

The US isn't strong enough to win it. Economically, it is strong but not nearly as strong as it is militarily. The US is more-or-less comparable with the EU and China. Everyone else can trade with one another. The US can only trade domestically if it is unable to trade internationally. And it will lose its place in the global supply chain for a generation if things continue for long.

Of course, the assault on Turkey is designed to damage its relationship with NATO. So Trump is doing just what Putin would wish.

I have just authorized a doubling of Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum with respect to Turkey as their currency, the Turkish Lira, slides rapidly downward against our very strong Dollar! Aluminum will now be 20% and Steel 50%. Our relations with Turkey are not good at this time!
