We went to a yard sale today and, for five bucks, my wife bought a little HDTV antenna that claims "Up to 30 Miles' Range".
"30 miles! We should be able to get some channels with this," she enthused.
"30 miles?" I said. "It won't see ONE mile through mountain." But I kind of hoped she'd be right.
As usual, she was. Righter than me, anyway. In one direction, our house doesn't face up a mountain. It faces DOWN a mountain in the direction of Vermont. Brattleboro Vermont (home of Bernie's wife's college), to be specific.
We plugged the gadget in and had the TV scan for stations. Much to my joy, we got SEVEN stations! Much to my chagrin, five of them are PBS (They must all be coming off of the same tower) and the other two are actually a single community television station in both HD and SD format. This community television station has a website but it doesn't even have its programming posted... so I have no idea what it airs. I'll keep my fingers crossed. So far its programs have been about surfing and base jumping.
It seems my future televised entertainment will mostly involve english accents and beg-a-thons. But even those are occasionally better than nothing.
Drumroll, please. What's on tonight?
