Spartacus Booker: A Poor Showman, a Worse Politician

Well, it looks like Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) — AKA “the Jim Acosta of the Senate” — is working to become the MVP of the grandstanding lawmakers during the Kavanaugh confirmation hearing. He recently took what he and his cohorts would view as a courageous stance when it comes to the Supreme Court nominee’s emails.
Senator Booker threatened to release information that would likely paint Kavanaugh as a racist. Yes, that’s right. The first attempt to inject racism into the hearings failed, so now the left is trying a different tactic. Unfortunately, as with their other antics, Booker’s attack failed miserably.

Cory Booker’s “Spartacus” Moment
On Thursday, September 6, Senator Booker announced that he would release confidential emails from Judge Kavanaugh that discussed racial profiling in the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks. Publishing these documents might have been a violation of Senate rules, which could result in the senator’s removal from Congress.
However, Booker was undaunted. “I am going to release the e-mail about racial profiling and I understand that the penalty comes with potential ousting from the senate,” he declared. He also said: “This is about the closest I’ll probably ever have in my life to an, ‘I am Spartacus’ moment.”
When Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) warned Booker of the potential consequences, the lawmaker stood his ground and said, “bring it.” It is not yet clear whether Booker’s eyes were wet with “tears of rage.”
Soon thereafter, Booker published 12 pages of emails online. Now, the public can see what Judge Brett Kavanaugh thinks of racial profiling — especially when it comes to terrorism.
What Did the Email Say?
So is there a smoking gun in Kavanaugh’s emails? Is there now irrefutable proof that the Supreme Court nominee is a virulent racist who will destroy the lives of American minorities?
Not quite.
As a matter of fact, the emails amount to a whole lot of nothing on a sesame seed bun. Kavanaugh drafted the email in question while working as an attorney in the White House under George W. Bush. In the wake of 9/11, the administration was seeking solutions that could prevent future attacks. Some favored profiling Muslims while others did not. Turns out Kavanaugh was in the latter category.
“The people who favor some use of race/natl origin (sic) obviously do not need to grapple with the ‘interim’ question,” Kavanaugh writes. “But the people (such as you and I), who generally favor effective security measures that are race-neutral in fact DO need to grapple — and grapple now — with the interim question of what to do before a truly effective and comprehensive race-neutral system is developed and implemented.”
So Judge Kavanaugh was not fond of racial profiling after all, and Booker’s grandstanding was for nothing. But that’s not the end of the story.
Booker’s Critical Error
Booker claimed that he was having his “I am Spartacus” moment because he was going to release emails that were confidential, which mean that he was breaking the rules. But, unbeknownst to Senator Grassley, who gave him a warning, Booker wasn’t breaking the rules at all.

Bill Burck, President Bush’s records representative stated that they had “cleared the documents last night shortly after Senator Booker’s staff asked us to.” Burck also said: “We were surprised to learn about Senator Booker’s histrionics this morning because we had already told him he could use the documents publicly. In fact, we have said yes to every request made by the Senate Democrats to make public documents public.”
Whoops.
It appears that Senator Spartacus wasn’t quite telling the truth when he made his brave stand against the man. But you can’t blame him, right? How else would he top Senator Kamala Harris’ performance on the first day of the hearings?
Let’s face it, this story won’t cast Booker in a negative light. The establishment media will never report on the full details of his “mistake.” However, the rest of the American public still sees Booker for what he is: a political showman just angling for a 2020 presidential nomination.
