Aside from the Great Escape from Happy Valley and the Buckeyes stealing a win there, even better things are happening in my general home town area, but my alma mater, University of Cincinnati.
The Bearcats second year coach Luke Fickel has this team playing pretty well in year two. Year one was tough to watch. Complete different team this year. They are 5-0
Now, they are not playing Clemson, Georgia, 'Bama, LSU, or other heavyweights but they have gradually gotten better each game they have played. Confidence is building and the expectation to play hard, you win. I am surprised and glad.
I think Fickel brings some credibility to the program the players can respond to. He is a winner. He was a defensive coordinator for the Buckeyes for several years.
He served under both Jim Tressel AND Urban Meyer. They were highly successful under both. Hopefully the two schools can keep it going. I love the underdog.. My Cats are fun to watch and have to work really hard to win. They are not as talented as many of the Big football programs are and UCF will likely beat the snot out of them. But they are improving a lot year over year so next year should be even better as recruiting gets stronger due to success on the field...
I can only hope.....
