That is an interesting view and perspective yer majesty.
Never gave that slant any thought before.
I never had any fights in school. Not that I was not an angel or anything. I was however the very strongest person in school and everyone in my class and the two down from me knew it. They did not go out of their way to get stuffed in a locker or turned upside with their heads being dunked in the toilet like I did to a couple of well deserving miscreants.
I always had a desire to stick up for the person who could not defend themself. A lot of times it was my own older brother. But sometimes one of the nicest people on this planet who was part of my circle of Robin Hood's band was taken advantage of by dimwits and one day it was just too much for me to sit idly by and do nothing.
Second to last day of school my senior year in the lunchroom with about 500 other kids. My friend Bill Franks, who was about 6 foot 2 and very mild mannered was sitting at our 48 inch round table along with some of my football buds. All of a sudden a piece of cake comes flying onto our table and lands on Bill. The doofus who threw it at us was still laughing. I calmly got up, walked over to Bill and retrieved the cake and in good spirit returned it to the sender in person. It looked great crushed into his hair and and icing smeared down his shirt.
He made a mistake by getting up and taking a swing at me.
The next mistake was the rest of the morons in this bunch who also got up like they were going to all jump me.
The punk took a swing at me and missed. I did not miss.
He went sailing across the table and cleared off all their trays. his buddies started to take a step towards me but they all received a tap on the shoulder from all my pals who were behind them and advised it would not be a smart thing to do.
The Superintendent walked across the lunchroom over to us and asked me if there was a problem here.
I said no sir to Mr. Lucas. No problem at all. I was just headed to my next class. He said alright and let me off the hook. We didn't become friends. I saw the punk in the stairwell because there were 3 floors of classrooms at school and we happened to use the same one. I told him if he had any sense it would be best for him to keep moving. He turned and ran the other way. It was the smartest thing he had done in his life.
Only so called "fight" I had been involved in directly other than over seas in paradise. As an ALL state offensive lineman I could bench press over 400 pounds at ten reps. I could military press about 275 with ten reps.
I Still have a pretty good amount of arm strength today. My arthritic lower back is what gets me. It definitely hinders some things I would not think twice about.
I always wondered what would have happened if the civil war was declared a draw and we had two separate countries. I am glad we did not. We need you southerners. I am grateful for you..
