Ok, so I did all that and that bar never reappeared.
This is so frustrating to me, as the solution is as simple as what you described, but apparently different. After I call Chuck, my puter buddy, I'll let you know what he tells me. That is so you can remind me of what to do the next time I accidentally hit the wrong key again,

I have to go to the store, blah blah.
Ya know, I was always told that I didn't have a logical mind and it took me many years to agree.
However, I will be a terror when I have to deal with the hospital later.
Kind of balances out.
