Kathy > Anybody ever go to Denali in AK?

Yep.
Mom and I went up there once upon a time. I think we rode the train, then a bus to
this little lodge out in the middle of nowhere. With grizzly bears for neighbors.

I remember thinking about going out to pick some blueberries to go with
breakfast . . . and watching this small shaggy mountain go rolling by.
Nope. Think I'll wait till after lunch before I try picking blueberries for tomorrow's breakfast.

But it was well worth the trip.

I remember, on the bus, and most of the folks on the bus were old folks who were
avid bird watchers . . . and so of course we had to stop at every pond to count
all the ducks . . . The driver said "We can't be stopping at every pond we
got a schedule to keep." No sooner had the words came out of his mouth
when Mr. Wolf came trotting out.

And can't forget Mama bear with two baby bears crossing the glacier
streams. That was priceless. Seems one of the babies crossed the stream
before Mama . . she got P.O'ed at that boy and proceeded to spend the
next twenty minutes chasing him around in circles paddling his butt.
(And being chased in turn by the other baby.)

Good times.
Zim.

BIG HORN MOUNTAIN - I couldn't think of it before.
Horrifying. The drive from Deadwood SD to WY is a nightmare, IMO. How I didn't drop dead from a heart attack right then and there still stymies me.

Here's a post I found:

Re: Route from Cody to Deadwood

Hello. You didn't say when in June you will be driving. That makes a difference. On both routes you will be driving over high mountain passes. A lot of snow falls on the Big Horn Mountains. In early June you will still have lots of snow along the highway, but the highways will be open. I would recommend you drive Highway 14 east from Greybull. Highway 14 is a better constructed road. You will drive through Shell Canyon and up Granite Pass. Granite Pass is a steep pull out of Shell Canyon. Both routes, either Shell Canyon east of Greybull or Ten Sleep Canyon east of Worland are scenic. Highway 16 east of Worland through Ten Sleep Canyon is more challenging. But for overall ease of travel, scenery, travel time, I would drive Highway 14. I have driven both routes too. Plus on Highway 14 you get to drive through Sheridan. Pull over and stop in historic downtown Sheridan

Anybody ever go to Denali in AK? If you haven't been there, don't go.
