...if the bridge did collapse and any of the invaders got hurt, it would be portrayed as a disaster and all trumps fault.

Bridges built for vehicular trafffic do not always do well when loaded with people. When the Golden Gate Bridge turned 50 years old they stopped traffic and allowed people to walk on it.At some point someone noticed that the arch built into the roadway had flattened out.Ther got everyone off as quickly as possible.

This is a long way to say that I am surprised this bridge didn't collapse with all that weight on it.
