Heidi Heitkamp Raised $12.5M in Days After Kavanaugh Vote
Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), considered the most endangered incumbent Senate Democrat, raised an eye-popping $12.5 million between Oct. 1 and Oct. 17, according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission.
Of that total, about $7.5 million came from small-dollar donors. Prior to that period, she had raised about $14 million for the entire cycle.
The Oct. 1-17 reporting period covers the days after she decided to voice her opposition to Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court, a move that may have harmed her further in the polls. “Last Thursday’s hearing called into question Judge Kavanaugh’s current temperament, honesty and impartiality,” Heitkamp wrote in a statement at the time. “These are critical traits for any nominee to serve on the highest court in the country.”
“In an outpouring of support for civil and principled politics, Heidi’s received nearly 15,000 contributions this cycle from every corner of our state and 3,000 new volunteers in just the last few weeks,” Sean Higgins, a spokesperson for the campaign, told The Daily Beast.
“It’s simple—while Kevin Cramer will always fall in line with Mitch McConnell and the special interests, Heidi will always work across the aisle and only answer to North Dakotans.”
