'Potential goals' . .
Sounds more like a laundry list of 'you must give up
all the conveniences of modern life' . . .
And this :
>>>
On first glance, it would seem that the science communication scholars are correct: the devastatingly huge nature of the problem leads to despair and inaction.

'devastatingly huge nature of the problem' ??
No.
Let me see, I think it was a 'Kyoto Climate Accord'
which fell apart over how many gazillions of dollars
third world kleptocrats was supposed to steal from
the 'first world' in the name of global warming.
The first most obvious solution - how to reduce carbon
emissions . . expand nuclear energy use. I believe
barak Obama even made a pretty speech about it . . .
Then he said no Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump. No
Yucca Mountain no expansion of nuclear.
And then we have al 'global warming czar' gore and barak Obama shaking their fat fingers and screeching
"You MUST reduce your carbon emissions" . . . And Al Gore
builds himself an energy hog of a palace while the Obamas
are busy flying his and her 747's (at taxpayers expense)
all over the planet.
It is impossible to take this 'crisis' seriously when
our 'leaders' are so obviously ignoring it.
