BREAKING: Blast kills American service members in Syria
American troops with the U.S.-led coalition battling the Islamic State group died when an explosion struck a market in the northern Syrian city of Manbij.
U.S. officials did not say how many were killed.
Forces were on foot in the city when they were approached by a man in civilian clothing with explosives hidden under his clothes at around 1 p.m. local time (6 a.m. ET), according to a local official.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, which came just weeks after President Donald Trump declared the extremist group had been defeated in the country. The group did not immediately produce evidence to support the claim.
