GEE, NO THANK-YOU. THE HONEY'S FATHER WAS A BRIT.
ALL OF THEIR IDEAS SUCKED, IMO. I DON'T BELIEVE IN QUEENS AND KINGS ANYWAY. A RANDOM CHOICE BY BIRTH TO INFLUENCE AN ENTIRE NATION? NOPE, DON'T THINK SO.
TO BE THE PRODUCT OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE IS AN OBNOXIOUS TREATMENT OF OTHERS. I WOULD FAIL BASED ON THAT ALONE.
WE'RE AMERICANS AND WE DON'T KISS ASS.
HOW ABOUT THE BLINKER LIGHT SPECIALIST? YEEEHAAA!

What does a royal consort do, what kind of duties do they have?

A great deal depends upon the capabilities and personality of the consort juxtaposed against the strengths and weaknesses of the monarch. Edward VII was not well respected, but he was well liked, he took a bit of a hands off approach to the throne, and his queen, a rather shy and retiring woman was tasked with one thing, and that was providing an heir. His son, George V was an naval officer, strict and officious, his queen (Mary), was a rather rigid German princess with very precise ideas of the duties and responsibilities of the monarchy, and although she remained in Georges shadow, she was very much the matriarch and moral arbiter in the family. His successor, George VI was a rather weak and diffident man, and as the second son, was inadequately prepared for kingship, which he never wanted. He was fortunate in that his wife (Elizabeth, the Queen Mother) was a sparkling personality that made the monarchy a rallying point in WWII, and as she aged, became hugely popular "granny" to all of England. The current consort, Phillip, can be describe charitably as a bit of a "salty", personality, or for his detractors, and boor and a clown. However, he is reasonably well liked in that he provides a nice counterpoint to the queen, who is unfailing in dignity and the fulfillment of her largely ceremonial duties. From a practical point of view, their actual "job" is almost entirely ceremonial, but strong personalities (Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and Phillip) almost certainly have influence on attitudes of the reigning monarch.
