Some House Democrats are whispering about a party-backed primary challenger to freshman firebrand Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex next year, a sign of frustration among her colleagues about her alignment with a progressive group threatening incumbent lawmakers.
At least one House Democrat has privately urged members of the New York delegation to recruit someone from the Bronx or Queens to challenge the social media sensation, who shocked the party last June when she beat Rep. Joe Crowley in their June primary, it was revealed on Tuesday.
"What I have recommended to the New York delegation is that you find her a primary opponent and make her a one-term congressperson," a Democratic lawmaker told The Hill newspaper. "You've got numerous council people and state legislators who've been waiting 20 years for that seat. I'm sure they can find numerous people who want that seat in that district." ...
