Hey, who's the surgeon general around here?? You should direct your medical questions to me.

The stent's main advantage is that it can be inserted non-invasively, avoiding the trauma, infection and dropped surgical implement risks created by cracking the chest. When non-invasive surgery can be done, it's preferable. Stents are generally removed after 8 to 12 weeks. Doctors do this by cracking the chest.
