Rubio: Saudi Crown Prince Has ‘Gone Full Gangster’
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) blasted Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Wednesday, saying that the heir has “gone full gangster.” Rubio further described Salman as “ruthless” and “reckless” and claimed that he’s becoming “increasingly willing to test the limits of what he can get away with.”
As examples, he and other senators on the Foreign Relations Committee cited the slaughter of civilians in Yemen, the slaying of Jamal Khashoggi, and the torture of American citizens.
The comments came as part of an attempt to convince Trump’s nominee for Saudi ambassador, retired Army Gen. John Abizaid, to hold Riyadh accountable for the crimes they allegedly perpetrated. Abizaid, however, stressed the importance of the U.S.-Saudi relationship, telling the senators, “It is in our interest to make sure that the relationship is sound.”
