A “bomb cyclone” has stranded about 1,100 motorists in Colorado and a state trooper has been killed in a crash blamed on the weather. Rescue teams are fighting hurricane-force winds to get to people trapped in their cars, CNN reports. “We are in full saving-lives mode,” said Ryan Parsell, a spokesman for El Paso County, about the efforts to help those who are trapped. “This isn’t your average Colorado storm.” Earlier in the day, Cpl. Daniel Groves was reportedly killed after a driver lost control of his vehicle in the storm and hit him. Groves had been helping another driver who slid off the highway. The severe blizzard-like conditions have forced members of law enforcement to abandon their vehicles and seek shelter, slowing down the response time to vehicle accidents. “We are at the point where we are rescuing rescuers out there,” said Elbert County Manager Sam Albrecht.
