I'm a bit surprised that the trim can be set to "dive".

---------

My Dad tried to set my trim to DIVE, but I never could jump into my aunt's pool head first.

I was not allowed to spit, either.

woe is me.....

How's the kiddo doing?

Re: "With the plane trimmed full nose-down it would be very hard to pull against it."
That explanation makes sense. Thank you! I'm a bit surprised that the trim can be set to "dive". "Descend," yes. But "dive"? That sounds a bit extreme. In fact, I'd think that if the updrafts were so great that they had to be countered with a "dive" that control of the plane would be returned automatically to the pilot. But I'm no plane designer and I don't know what pilots might actually need. Or maybe that is how it works but it malfunctioned.
