But there's no way Democrats could permit a multi-week trial to take place. It would have badly messed with their campaign plans. Half of their candidates are campaigning on issues involving "hate"... and this would have been a big trial showing one of the best publicized hate attacks to be a hoax. That had to be stopped.

Fortunately, Smollett is probably guilty of sending threats through the U.S. mail. Let's hope that Federal prosecutors aren't as corrupt as the Illinois State's attorney's office and insist on a trial anyway.
