We will double that this year. I am thiniking of planting corn this year also to try. Did not have much success last time bu hey, it's a new year.

My land is pretty well rich in nutrients. Will be interesting... Good luck with your continuing work there De! Hope you have a bumper crop this year!

Re: "Me? O, I'll just expand my garden to be about around a a third of an acre and raise some more beggies that we can preserve."
I wish you luck with that. My early opinion is that it's going to take me several years to make my garden large enough, successful enough and varied enough that I could live off of it. And it will be months before I get anything edible out of it, so I'd better have a significant stockpile of food in case a crash happens while the garden is buried in snow. I actually do have quite a bit of stored food, though I won't lie and tell you that it's enough. It's not. Also, I don't care at all for the taste of the dehydrated bucket-food so I might wish I was dead even if I'm not starving.

Try this scenario: Suppose that a collapse were to occur this October. By the end of the month, store shelves get emptied, never to be replenished. When will your crops be ready? June? July? Would you and your family survive? Right now, I wouldn't. Hopefully by this time next year I'll have a more positive outlook but the answer would probably still be no... I think I'm looking at several years of trying different crops and expanding the garden.

Here's a January 2019 article that says if we had a worst-case-scenario EMP attack, 90 percent of the population would die. And for most, it would have been preventable, caused by to a lack of preparedness.
