Pelosi: Barr’s Spying Comments Undermine His DOJ Role
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says that Attorney General William Barr’s Wednesday testimony that “spying did occur” on Trump’s presidential campaign undermines his role at the Justice Department.
Pelosi said the statement conflicts with Barr’s independence as the country’s top law enforcement officer, and aligns him with Trump’s agenda. Barr is “not the attorney general of Donald Trump. He is the attorney general of the United States,”
Pelosi told the Associated Press. “I don’t trust Barr. I trust Mueller.”
The speaker also said that she’s “very concerned” about Barr’s handling of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report. On Wednesday, Barr told a Senate panel he believes “spying did occur” on Trump’s presidential campaign. The assertion echoes Trump’s longtime claims that the Feds and Obama spied on his campaign.
