Re: "Ya know DE EVERY laptop I have had fried. They get hot and cook the chip...........then nothing works........."
First, my last laptop lasted from 2012 until nearly the end of 2018. That's a long time for any computer.

Second, about the time I finished with my last post, my wife - who happens to be a computer genius as well as a crack shot - finished tinkering with my laptop and smiled. "There," she said. "Fixed it." LOL. And indeed she had.

She'd updated the network adapter driver.

In the course of doing that, she also noticed that there was a message somewhere saying that Microsoft had pushed a Windows update to me yesterday and it had failed. So there's the culprit. Microsoft had me THAT CLOSE to buying a new laptop.

Over the last hour, I've been getting the blue spinning wheels that mean that Windows is busy, several taking fifteen minutes or more to clear. Seems to have finally improved, but I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft is about to make a second attempt at forcing its damned update down my throat.
