Realist - Everybody in America is soft, and hates conflict. The cure for this, both in politics and social life, is the same -- hardihood. Give them raw truth.

A funny story . . . NOT.
`
I ordered a Dell M4800 with an i7-4900MQ 3.8Ghz processor. The packing list on what I received says that as well. HOWEVER, I just checked the machine itself (to make sure it had all 16 Gigs of memory) and did a double take. It says (electronically) that I have an Intel (R) Core (TM) i7-4810MQ CPU @ 2.80 Ghz 2.80Ghz .
`
Wrong processor. The 2.80Ghz is not a concern since both the wrong processor and the right one would say that. Both have something called "Turbo Boost" that makes the CPU up its speed as needed, up to 3.8 Ghz.
`
The CPU I was supposed to receive is superior in several respects, most notably the 8MB Smartcache -vs- 6MB Smartcache. The CPU I received lists for $380 on ark.intel.com while the one I ordered lists for $570 on the same site. Big difference.
`
I gotta figure that most people would not have discovered this mistake.
`
So, back to Amazon it goes. And I'll place my order again. Meanwhile, Amazon has changed the price of the machine I want. It's now $489.99. When I first found it, it was $469.
`
I don't know yet what this is going to do to my 4-year warranty. The company providing it is NOT Amazon. I'd think that they would refund my warranty when I return the laptop. They might not like me very much when I buy the same thing a second time. And if it also turns out to have the wrong CPU then I'll AGAIN return the laptop and the warranty. @#$!

*** UPDATE *** The warranty has been refunded. I'll be clearing this hard drive and shipping it back tomorrow. And I'll be ordering the same thing later tonight... but paying $20 more for it. (Amazon wouldn't allow an exchange, probably because of the price change between when I bought it and what it's selling for today.)

*** UPDATE #2 *** The new machine has been ordered. I'm ordering it from a DIFFERENT "Amazon Marketplace" - in the hope that I won't get another one with the same problem.
