The second statement is absolutely true.

The first? At the time I was thinking how the current obozo-care scam which
was all about 'providing' health care for poor people was costing way more
than it ought.

The big question is 'Should a prosperous country like ours try to help its worst off citizens?'

I think yes.
But there must be limits. We should NOT be trying to 'elevate' poor people
to a middle class lifestyle. Welfare should have limits - especially for
able bodied people.

Re: "What I'd like to try? Local and State governments providing a system of free health clinics and hospitals for poor people - treating anyone who comes through the doors."
You believe in taxing Americans to give free stuff to "poor" people? How about free food? How about free housing? Free clothes? Free entertainment?

I'm feeling pretty poor right now. Do I get some of this free stuff too?

Nothing is free. If you want government to give something to some people, you're authorizing them to take it from others.
