The internet was all better by the time we woke, so this was a 24-hour outage. Hopefully, there won't be too many more like it.

Last week, we decided we were done for the year with hitting yard sales. The weather is cooling and the number of sales were in rapid decline. During the week, though, my wife found that several towns were having their annual rummage sales.

Around here, when you hit the road you seemingly find yourself in a new town every five minutes. These are little towns, mostly defined by a General Store, a post office and a white church straight out of Little House on the Prairie (but, as an interesting aside, usually a good hundred years OLDER than any church Laura Ingalls Wilder ever attended). The church annexes are where the towns often hold their rummage sales. And that's where we went today.

Today I learned that town rummage sales aren't enough better than yard sales to go to the trouble of chasing down. We bought less than usual - an enormous amount less for all the extra miles we put on the truck - and much of what we did buy came from the few actual yard sales we found. Today's "booty" wasn't very exciting: A 20' very heavy duty chain that I can use to secure equipment at the barn ($14), a 10,000 pound come-along ($16), a Radio Shack voice-activated intercom ($5), some books (mostly $1 each), four small trellises ($1 each), etc. What made the day worthwhile were the stops we made between the towns. This is definitely the weekend for sight seeing:
