The entire front field is made of dirt. It hasn't blown away yet!

No surprise, really, as this is NOT freshly-dug dirt from the woods. I assume you are pick-axing the dirt, taking a shovel and putting it in a wheelbarrow, correct? Only because I have previously done this job can I offer you this: you will have loose dirt; not dirt that has been there for years, and is why all of us don't have dirt blowing around our yards. Correct me if I'm wrong.

We had an equivalent area that needed layers of dirt, and I pick-axed the mounds of "old" dirt, used a shovel to get it in a wheelbarrow and pushed it over (and over and over and over) to where I needed to get a level area of dirt to cover a tarp that also blew in the wind. I needed a lot of dirt. The upshot to my problem was that we needed to increase the amount of LANDSCAPE TIMBERS to keep everything intact. We then covered it with a layer of white stone. The joy of home ownership.

About my calculation error, just think if I had been in charge of dealing with the builder - you would have had a FREE barn, in addition to a check for the balance due to YOU. My apologies for an obvious error.

A month can be a very long time if that loose dirt gets blown around. But doesn't that also mean that you will need to put dirt down every year until the ground settles?

Let me know what this costs ya:

As for "720 feet, divided by 12 inches equals 60 cement blocks." uh... yeah. Okay. I'll give that some thought. Right now I'm thinking that you should have built my barn for me. I'd have saved a fortune on materials!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to give "dirt" a try and see how it goes. Remember: Once the deep freeze sets in, those tarps aren't going anywhere. I just need something to keep them in place for another month or so.
