I save all the bags from Walmart and other places I probably have 500 or more. I even bag some up from time to time and put them in my weekly trash.

I agree that ocean plastic is a huge problem. But I need bags. I don't agree that deprivation is the solution to the world's problems. Technology is the answer. We should push hard to develop nanobots that eat pollutants. I think we could make major inroads on that within 15 years.
