Many of these stores are owned by individual owners.
I love the Hallmark stores here. They are pricey but the cards are the best. I don;t mind spending a little more for a nice card for my wife or my chiildren. The grandkids is where Mrs. micro comes into play and picks those out.

I hope the local Halllmark to me is not one of them..

...maybe they should come out with a line of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Homeless, Hispanic, Non-Binary spotted owl cards. Im sure there's a demand for em.
