If there's any basis for optimism, it's that the numbers suggest 2019-nCoV has a mortality rate between 2 and 4 percent. SARS had a mortality rate of more than double that. On the down side, I'm not at all sure that the numbers are correct. (A Chinese website, "TenCent.com" has, on multiple occasions, posted numbers that were ten times the "official" count. Each time, the higher figures included a history that was consistent with the higher figures. Time passed and the higher figures were abruptly "corrected". Kinda suggests that two sets of books are being kept on this disease.)

A second city the size of Wuhan has now been locked down. (FYI, "quarantine" is actually not the right term for this. A quarantine is a confinement of someone who is infected. What's happening in Wuhan (pop 11 million) and now Huanggang (pop 9 million) is called a "cordon sanitaire").
