First thing is build as well built home and great insulation. You have already done that......If your wood fire is going that will replace your other heat that kept pipes from freezing in the first place. And yes get a couple Blue flame propane space heaters. They are vent free and can be used inside. Just crack a window for fresh air. Just keep an eye on everything till your power comes back on. My 5th wheel is totally self sufficient, Just fire up the generator and I am fine..

I have the smallest one of these inside my place. works great.

Realist - Everybody in America is soft, and hates conflict. The cure for this, both in politics and social life, is the same -- hardihood. Give them raw truth.

We had a power outage at midnight that had me concerned. I really don't know what options there'd be if there were ever a LENGTHY outage during winter. Sure, I've got wood with which to stay warm, but how do I keep the pipes from bursting? (The new house and barn will have generator hookups.)

Fortunately, power came back on overnight.
