The summer version of this thing is the "Junior Varsity" as Obonzo would say. Wait until this coming fall / winter.

Re: "Sorry DE but I do not believe in that kool aide you are drinking."
I have no idea what you're talking about and don't think you do either. The fact that COVID-19 hasn't killed very many Americans isn't up for dispute. It's killed 68,000 and hasn't [yet] turned into the nightmare that was initially forecast. You asked how it can be that the number of U.S. deaths overall could be down this year despite the pandemic. I've given you an answer: COVID-19 hasn't killed millions. But do remember that it's been here for just 4 months, it isn't over yet, and the dire estimates were for what to expect if the nation didn't take the protective measures it ultimately did take.

The lockdown has reduced deaths from myriad things, not just from COVID-19. The net of pandemic lives lost + lockdown lives saved is a savings. I think that's a simple concept and probably accurate. You disagree, and I'm fine with that. I'm only curious why, when I listed numerous hazards reduced by lockdown, you seem to focus on them one at a time, as if I'd attributed the reduction to just one thing. I didn't. You have to tally them ALL, hydro, including the many that I didn't list, or my point stands.
Re: "Coronavirus's have been around for thousands of years and are not going anywhere."I don't think COVID-19 is a normal coronavirus. In fact, I don't think it's a natural coronavirus. Do you? The quote above suggests you do. The evidence against it being natural is overt. I posit that those who look at the evidence and still think this thing is just a coronavirus are probably the ones who have been drinking kool aide.

Out of curiosity, what do you think the grand total U.S. deaths from COVID-19 will be? Clearly not too high. 70,000? 80,000? 100,000??? Maybe you could put your prediction into your Atomic Bobs signature line - like I have with the price of gold. Two years from now, I'll probably still be here. It will be fun to point to it and note how wrong one of us was. It might be me - but I sort of doubt it, particularly if the nation is determined to lift the barriers against its further spread even as the virus continues to be in our midst and thriving.

I agree with you that there won't be a vaccine. COVID-19 does have that much in common with its sibling coronaviruses. There's never been a vaccine for the common cold. There won't be an effective one for COVID-19 either, though I'm sure someone [Bill Gates] will concoct something and endeavor to force it upon us.
