Re: "You were right of course, but all you did was piss someone off when in fact, it was unnecessary and changed nothing to the point being made." ... "SOmetimes understanding what a person is saying is all that matters."
You're 100% right. However, I didn't have an inkling that what I wrote would piss someone off, so I don't know how I could reasonably have avoided doing so except to turn myself into a very different, much quieter type of person, one who values "niceness" over "informative." I'm not going to make that change. I don't want to. I like who I am and consider myself to be nice enough, especially when it's the time for "nice" - which it sometimes is and sometimes is not.

So that's a tough thing for me to fix. If "know it alls," as Nemo calls me, set him off, then my friendship with Nemo may be ended. That's his choice. I am the way I am and probably will be for the rest of my life... (maybe even more so since I intend to continue learning.)

BTW, "know it alls" who are WRONG piss me off too. I try hard not to be wrong with facts. They matter to me. That's a key part of why I correct others when I can. I'd want the same done with me.

IMO, it is usually paramount to get facts right if a person is going to build upon them and draw a rational conclusion. This applies to all people. A big part of the trouble in the world today may be rooted in the fact that people often do not have the same fundamental understanding.
Re: "The POINT of the post Nemo had made ..."A second topic to address with you is that when I quote and reply, I am only replying to what I've quoted and not to an entire post unless the quote was representative of the entire post. You suggested otherwise several times including in the above statement. I sometimes quote and reply repeatedly in order to tackle more than one topic, as I've done in this message. That's my standard reply format on AtomicBobs. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear to everyone. I thought it was. With regard to what happened with Nemo, I wasn't weighing in on his main topic. In fact, I wasn't addressing it at all. I was going off on a tangent. I do that, especially when it's to set a fact straight.

There was a burr under Nemo's saddle and he got it out. That's healthy sometimes. However, what he said obviously goes deeper than just that one post. If he's got a problem with intellectuals ("know it alls") and sees me as one, then I have few options. I can stop knowing so much, which isn't going to happen, or I can shut up. That's probably not going to happen either... not just yet anyway.

Ultimately, everyone has to make their own way through life and there will be people we just don't like. If I'm one of those people for Nemo then using this board's "Ignore" function may be the right solution for him. I'm just surprised that it took him well over ten years to come to that conclusion.
Re: "Legalism is something that most doctrinally sound Churches try to not allow to creep in via "teachers" or preachers"... WHY? Beause it creates division instead of UNITY..."I don't agree with this conclusion. There won't be unity and probably not even agreement if the participants in a conversation aren't rooted in a common set of facts. And if errors in those facts can't be set straight without hurting someone's feelings, then I don't think open conversation can even exist.

Granted, doing this can constitute 'going off on a tangent.' Is that a problem in your mind?

You've suggested that ignoring Nemo's main point is what frustrated him. From his words, however, I think the problem is that he just doesn't like intellectuals. (I don't consider myself to be one, btw. I try to write intelligently, though. I'm not going to apologize for that.)

Thanks for the advice micro.

I am going to go out on a limb here because I like both of you guys and read what you post. I do not always agree with everything. Sometimes I will post a different opinion, sometimes I will agree and sometimes I say nothing at all.

SO let's clear something up. Monoploies. I suspect Beldin being the CPA type might know better than most, but many companies actually have products or services that are UNIQUE to them and only they have them for sale.
They CAN be said to have a monopoly on something..

Companies that market products or services that are not covered under existing patents and attempt to shut down competition through various means including antgonistic business practices , coersion, intimidation, but not limited to these, are engaging in momnoploistic practices
that are addressed under laws and found to be illegal most times.

So we are PARSING words, or WORD SMITHING.

The POINT of the post Nemo had made was that large companies have been given an unfair advantage of competing small business owners who did not get the same "exemption" to stay oopen. Exemptions seemed to favor the large retail coroprations and that is undistubale.

THAT was the point of the article Nemo referenced, not the definition of the word "Monopoly".

While De is correct n his correction, (which was unnecesary) in circles of CHURCHES and TEACHING that is called "LEGALISM" and nobody likes it in Church , Sunday School, because it majors on something minor and creates division. Legalism is something that most doctrinally sound Churches try to not allow to creep in via "teachers" or preachers"... WHY? Beause it creates division instead of UNITY...

Legalism is not just a Church only thing.

I myself have been guilty of being "legalistic" in some things at Church and realized it afterward. I asked forgiveness from my Classes and had a great peace that comes from people who were forgiving and let it go...

In my mind, I was razor focused on a minor detail that was factual but made that small point a MAJOR and unyielding point. COnsequently, people who did not were offended and in the scheme of life, it made no difference but only created division and strife.

I guess as I grow older and a little more mellow, I have discovered that being "right" isn't always that important. Being more gracious is difficult to learn to apply all the time, but it a path that makes less confrontation and fewer "rubbed wrong" problems...

Decomp, while you were correct regarding when a monopolistic practice by a company is illegal, what did you gain other than make Nemo feel small because he did not include that part of "monopoly" in his sentence?

You were right of course, but all you did was piss someone off when in fact, it was unnecessary and changed nothing to the point being made.

SMALL BUSINESS owners all over this nation have been KILLED and decimated, their lives destroyed, and any employees they had put in same boat compared to the large public corporations who were obviously preferred and favored by the POLITICAL Class including TRUMP who allowed some very bad actors to influence him.

THAT this has been allowed to happen and is ongoing is a complete trampling of our Constitutional rights whether or not wew ant to admit it.

SO, I say this NOT to anger you, but point out the damage that WORDS can do, especially when we focus on a minor word defintion that did not change the over all meaning of what the post was saying.

You have a KEEN intellect and are educated. You have done well and succeeded and it shows in your offspring as well. Many people would agree.
So your posts are usually excellent and worthy of study and reading.. I read the vast majority of them.

I am poor at typing so I do not respond a lot.

Nemo, I understand your frustration and anger. HAs anyone else in your lifetime pissed you off??? Angered you because you felt they did not listen to what you were saying? I have.. My wofe mostly. But some employees along the decades as well. And some know it all people at Churches who were full of themselves.

Take some time to cool off. De wil realize the mistake. I am sure of that. He will see it and will feel bad for it.

Let's all decide to not be "experts" on everything and allow some grace and lattitude and try to understand the overall meaning of what someone is trying to express. SOmetimes understanding what a person is saying is all that matters. It is the cause of many lines of battle between husbands and wives if you have been married for any length of time... We react TOO quickly....

I know I do.. Why ? Because nobody can hurt your feelings faster than your spouse... That is true.

Just my input and weorth what everyone paid for it.. I do hope though that we might find a little more understanding of each others thought and viewpoints because they are all going to vary to various degrees and it is not a matter of someone being right or wrong...

At the end of life, we will discover we were mostly wrong anyway....

The GREAT APostle Paul said: I know that in me dwells NO GOOD THING. He knew hinself and recognized it.

I beleive we can too.

My best to every single person who posts on this board. I thank YOU ALL for the enjoyment I receive by reading your posts and thoughts. Every one of them. Hydro, CTJ, Nacl01, DGP, and EVERYONE.
