I suspect that some legal-eagle in the White House attorneys office told the president that if he disbanded the task force, he would no longer have a legal rational for preventing its members from testifying before Congress. But as long as they were meeting with the president and/or his staff on a regular basis, he could continue to argue that their communications were privileged.
