Season's first Copper River salmon arrives at Sea-Tac KOMO News Staff 6 hrs ago
SEATTLE -- The first shipment of Copper River salmon from Alaska has arrived in Seattle!
The Alaska Airlines cargo plane filled with the first shipment from Cordova, Alaska touched down at Sea-Tac Airport Friday morning and moments later as per tradition, Capt. Brent Carricaburu brought the first fish out for a big photo opportunity.
Carricaburu said the fish was very fresh, just caught Thursday and loaded on the 737 early Friday morning. It's the first wild salmon to be available in the marketplace since late August.
"It's a great opportunity for us to deliver some fresh Alaska seafood to Seattle," Carricaburu said.

Among the first to savor the salmon will be Seattle hospital workers, thanks to Trident Seafoods and famed Seattle chef Tom Douglas.
Douglas will use donated salmon to prepare over 200 Copper River dishes for workers at Swedish Hospital in Ballard Saturday as a thank you for their efforts on the front line battle against COVID-19.
"For those that are out there serving us... to be able to serve them is a true honor for us," said Joe Bundrant, CEO of Trident Seafoods.
Bundrant says Whole Foods will have it the salmon in its stores by Friday afternoon and with many restaurants closed, suggests it may be the best value in Copper River salmon consumers have seen in decades.
"It's really exciting in spite of everything going on in the world today, life continues and we're working extremely hard to have a safe and successful salmon season this summer," Bundrant said.
If you can't find it at the store, On Sunday, Douglas will be grilling up 6 oz. filets for the public at his Serious TakeOut restaurant with all proceeds going to Food Lifeline.
