The battery was dead as a doornail when they got to Virginia

If the alternator, voltage regulator and battery are all good, a long highway trip should keep the battery charged. A problem with any one of these will discharge the battery. I don’t know if the on-board computer would affect this or not.

My wife and son are in Virginia and called to report strange behavior with the minivan (see the video). I told them to get it back to the condo ASAP since a breakdown could be imminent, and to use the car to take the battery to Wal-mart or Autozone for testing. I'm thinking either the battery, the water pump (it would be the fourth time!) or the computer. What do you guys think?

The battery was dead as a doornail when they got to Virginia, btw. The van hadn't been driven since at least February.
