So death rates are lower.

That doesn't really explain lower death rates all over the world (about a quarter of what they were). But anyway, good to have the stats.

My guess is that the numbers of cases in Europe are lower because when the virus was spreading there, they couldn't diagnose it so well (viable tests came later). So perhaps four times as many people had it.
