The cabbage, on the other hand, is going gangbusters. I think it is a much hardier plant than lettuce.

Despite growing in the same water as the lettuce, the cabbage has thrived. It has good color, good roots and is almost ready to be transplanted. I'm tempted to put it in a garden pot but I have the feeling that this is going to be a really big plant. It probably should go in the garden. I think the next time we have several straight days of rain predicted... Cabbage obviously likes water.

My lettuce experiment did not go well. Three of the four rotted away and got thrown out. The same fate awaits number four.

This plant, the best of the bunch, grew spindly and cannot even support itself. As you can see, part of it is rotting and it never grew roots.

I am probably to blame. I saw something saying that the water lettuce is in should be changed daily. I didn't do that, often waiting four or five days and changing it once it was green. That can't be good for a plant. I will try the experiment again sometime down the road.
