...somehow or another I wound up with my grandfathers crosscut saw.

Looks like this one. I have actually cut trees with it. I have cut trees down with it with help from my son. I gave the saw to him when I got too old to use it. It isn't worth anything in cash but maybe my son can pass it down to his son and keep it going.

Grandpa used it to clear a field for growing corn. Pulled the stumps out of the ground with a mule and a lot of digging. Cleared a pasture. His neighbors helped him and he helped his neighbors clearing theirs. Wasn't no tractors back then. Wasn't no "approval" by the government to clear a field required either.

Most of us have lost our parents. Throwing their belongings away is something you've got to do. Keep a few as reminders, but toss the junky things. Otherwise they will drive you nuts. (Or MORE nuts as the case may be. Neutral )
